Pamms OnLine Privacy Policy

This page sets out how Pamms OnLine and Magpie Books Publishers Pty Ltd and their affiliated entities and companies, use information they collect.

This information is often described as personal information and includes such things as individual and business names, e-mail address, gender, date of birth, postcode, city name and country of residence. We also collect information to describe and characterise electronic devices including browser identity, ISP octet number. ISP name and electronic information available through what are termed "cookies".

We are committed to the National Privacy Principles contained in the Commonwealth Privacy Act. However, as publishers both online and print, we may be exempt from complying with the Privacy Act in relation to our journalism and reporting activities. Where this occurs, we shall comply with the Australian Press Council Privacy Standards for the use of personal information.

We will treat your personal information in accordance with this privacy policy. We may disclose aggregated statistical information that does not identify any person to advertisers and other third parties for marketing, promotional, and other purposes.

Any person may correct any factual information we have collected about them. Where we publish a view or product description, that view is the opinion of the author and any request for alteration should be limited to a request to alter a fact.

Notwithstanding the above, any person may communicate to us an opinion that a view we have expressed could be better expressed and subsequently, request a change to the words we have published. Any such request will be evaluated by us on its merit.

We try to ensure that all personal, private and public information we hold is accurate, complete and up-to-date. Stores can update objective information we have collected through our onLine FOIISŪ systems and we encourage them to do so. Each store is identified within FOIISŪ by a unique key which is not available to any person, other than the store and Pamms OnLine and its affiliate entities.

Information can be updated by contacting us by telephone, mail or facsimile or where a FOIISŪ key exists, through the use of that key. We do not accept requests for alteration by text message or e-mail, however a request by e-mail will be accepted if it is confirmed by facsimile within 24 hours of being sent.

How we use the information you provide us

We use information collected from you, both directly and indirectly for the primary purpose for which it is collected. As a general rule we use personal information to provide you with products or services you have requested personalise and customise web screens by which we communicate with you, and provide you with information which you have either requested or have indicated you have an interest in receiving.

In most cases where we ask you to provide information about yourself, if you do not provide the information sought, we will not be able to provide the product or service which relies on or which constitutes the requested product or service.

For instance, if you request a printed book on line, we will be unable to provide you a book unless we receive your full name and address and proper payment is made for the book requested.

With competition winners, we ask your full and proper name and address for audit purposes to assist in ensuring the fairness and integrity of the competition and for validating the identity of winners, should such validation be required. We publish the first name and the town of residence on our web site of all competition winners. We believe this practice ensures the anonymity of the winner, while nonetheless advising the general public that the prize has been offered, won and given as promised.

As a general principle, we will never willingly supply the email address of a private natural person to any person outside of Pamms onLine or its affiliate entities.

We may, from time to time, review and update this privacy policy statement to take account of new laws and technology and changes to our operations.
