The latest edition of Pamm's Guide to Discount Brisbane is on the newsagent and bookstore shelves this week and its author. Pamm Durkin claimed the potential for shoppers to save a dollar or two had rarely been better. She also said that buying discount did not mean accepting second best. "You can often have something custom made," she said. "I have done it where I had a dining table and I was having new chairs made up and I wanted the legs to be stained the same colour as the table. "They were able to match it with the table and these are the things you can do because you are dealing direct with the manufacturer. "But she urged shoppers to be sure to deal only with the genuine dealerships. There are any number of businesses that promote themselves as selling direct and giving people the impression they will be cheaper," Ms Durkin said. "But that is not necessarily the case." "They call themselves an outlet or say they are selling direct but anyone can say they are selling direct. What does that mean? "It really annoys me that there are any number of businesses that advertise second-hand as seconds. "People then think they are buying a factory second, such as a piece of display furniture that got scratched. "Or it could just be because they have an excess and they call it a second." "You have to be wary and it pays to do some comparison shopping particularly with big ticket items like furniture." "If you are going to be parting with significant amounts of money, you might want to spend a little time going through furniture stores."
